Irina Wagner

Irina Shuiskaya-Wagner was born in Russia in the large industrial city and cultural centre of Siberia, Novosibirsk.

She was born into the family of a professional musician and a doctor, where the children were taught music and art from early childhood. So it was quite a logical step for her to study at the Institute of Architecture.

At this faculty, she was able to study to become an artist and an architect at the same time. For five years Irina studied classical drawing, sculpture and painting.

After completing her studies, Irina worked as an architect and stage designer for the theatre, and participated in city art exhibitions, selling her works at art galleries.

Irina came to New Zealand in 1995 and immediately fell in love with the amazing nature of this beautiful country. Since moving to New Zealand, she has painted many works in acrylics and water colours.

Recently she has developed a new interest, weaving tapestry. Irina weaves her tapestries on a loom using her own design and colour ideas. But her chief love is still painting landscapes and portraits.
